Grackles, the indie Americana band led by Noah Lit, today released “I Love You (So Much),” the second track to be released from the band’s upcoming album Grackles Deux: The Grackling out August 15.
An ode to Grackles’ hometown of Austin, Lit ironically wrote the track last summer while holed up in New York City’s iconic Chelsea Hotel waiting for inspiration to strike. “My days were spent writing and playing guitar and trying to absorb all the vibes I could from this incredible building,” said Lit. “I very clearly remember sipping coffee and sitting on an antique couch in our room penning the song while thinking about how I’d missed the heyday of the Chelsea, just like Austin natives constantly miss whatever version of Austin we romanticize. In short, I had to come to New York to write my Austin anthem.”
Recorded at Austin’s iconic Arlyn Studios, Grackles Deux: The Grackling, out August 15, was written in only four days. With no restrictions to genre, the group–consisting of vocalist/guitarist Noah Lit, drummer Jimmy Paxson (Keith Urban, The Chicks), keyboardist/producer Kyle Crusham (Paul Simon) and GRAMMY Award winning blues artist Jason Mozersky–camped out with tequila and fajitas and jammed, eventually inviting more of the Austin music community to join as guest artists. The result is 12 tracks with lush instrumentations including everything from strings to horns to a Hammond B3 organ.
The Austin Chronicle said of “There Will Be Time,” the first song revealed from the album, that “even more so on this second album, their sound is polished and self-assured, basking in the confidence of the core musicians and their collaborators.”
“Austin is creativity – in music, in food, in culture,” said Lit. “It’s only fitting that we tapped into the spirits at Arlyn with a group of off duty Austin musicians.”
ABOUT GRACKLES
What began as a session without any expectation transformed into a creative wellspring that would take the form of their second full-length album. The earnest lyrics in songwriter and singer Noah Lit’s trademark baritone voice paired with vintage guitars, pedal steel, Hammond B3, string arrangements and dense background vocals combines rock, Americana and blues and brings to mind artists like Bruce Springsteen, Orville Peck, The Magnetic Fields, and The Mountain Goats.
Helmed by Lit, Grackles began as a side project of sorts for collaborators Jimmy Paxson , Kyle Crusham and GRAMMY Award winning blues artist Jason Mozersky. The outing’s first album emerged, last year’s Grackles, during a rare window of downtime—Jimmy on break from touring with The Chicks, Kyle between sessions with Paul Simon.
The follow up to Grackles, Grackles Deux: The Grackling, emerged from a break in a series of uncomfortable obligations. In their off time, Grackles found the inspiration they didn’t know they were looking for, and the result is 12 genre-spanning tracks of expertly performed arrangements and songs delving beyond the mundane of day to day life into a deeper beauty.
