Dexter and The Moonrocks, Abilene, TX’s underdogs of alternative rock, have scored a second top 5 single at the radio format with “Ritalin” from their latest EP, “Happy To Be Here.”
“Ritalin” follows the band’s debut radio single, “Sad in Carolina,” which held the top slot at the format for seven weeks at the end of 2024.
Having spent the last year+ on tour and playing steadily to larger and larger crowds, Dexter and The Moonrocks today added October and November dates to their “Happy to Be (everyw)Here Tour,” which will follow their performance at Vans Warped Tour Long Beach and dates opening for Cage The Elephant, Whiskey Myers and Red Clay Strays. The newly announced dates, noted below, will go on-sale this Wednesday, June 25th at 10 AM local time. For more information on the tour and how to purchase tickets, visit the band’s site here.
Last month, Texas Monthly profiled the band declaring, “...the group’s take on the genre sets the lyrics of country to the electric sounds of the nineties’ most memorable alternative subgenre. The music is dark and gritty. With his raw, raspy voice, Tuffs sings about drugs, breakups, and depression—themes that seem authentic for a former fry cook (Tuffs), drilling-rig crew member (Ty), concrete-surface decorator (Ryan, who’s Ty’s cousin), and kids baseball coach/law school dropout (Fox).”
In honor of “Happy To Be Here,” Dexter and The Moonrocks have pressed their first ever vinyl, “The Double EP.” Side A features all tracks from “Happy to Be Here” and Side B showcases songs from the group’s breakout hit EP “Western Space Grunge.” The vinyl pre-orders were available first to fans only, and the initial stock sold out in 15 minutes. The vinyl is now available to all here.
ABOUT DEXTER AND THE MOONROCKS
Dexter and The Moonrocks didn’t set out to change rock music - but that’s exactly what they’re doing. A fry cook, an oil field operator, a concrete surface decorator, and a kids’ baseball coach came together in West Texas, blending the country and western of their childhoods with the grunge they fell in love with as teenagers. That fusion became Western Space Grunge - a genre of their own making that turned them from a grassroots phenomenon into a force to be reckoned with.
They first broke through in 2021 with "Couch," a melancholy slow-burn that resonated deeply with fans and set the foundation for what was to come. That early momentum caught the attention of Severance Records, an imprint of Big Loud Rock, looking to make a statement with its first signing. Together, they released "Western Space Grunge" in July 2024, solidifying the band’s identity and introducing their most defining songs yet. The breakout single "Sad in Carolina" launched them from Abilene to the top of the US Alternative Rock Radio Chart, where the song spent seven weeks, proving their DIY grit and fearless sound could go head-to-head with the biggest names in rock.
Now, with their new EP, “Happy to Be Here,” Dexter and The Moonrocks are stepping into their moment, where a cult favorite becomes the “next big thing.” Led by “Ritalin” - a stadium-ready anthem already climbing the charts - the record captures a band fully coming into their own. From viral covers to festival stages, they’re proving they’re not just next up: they’re inevitable.
